Author, Carl Eugene Moore, Loses 125 lbs., Beats Type 2 Diabetes
Carl Eugene Moore realized he had been slowly killing himself for 18 years. In his memoir, Passing Through - Recovery from Diabetes and Food Addiction, the author explains how he walked away from both the disease and a lifelong love affair with food.
NEWBERRY, SC, October 31, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- When Carl Eugene Moore was diagnosed as a Type 2 Diabetic in 1988, he ignored the disease and did nothing to treat it. By the time he was in his mid 30s, he was taking high doses of oral medication and insulin injections, yet his blood sugar levels remained abysmal. Aside from the medication, he remained apathetic about improving his health.
"I was what my elderly mother terms a 'bad diabetic,' as if there's any other kind," Moore said. "Eventually, I started taking more than the maximum doses of prescribed medication, along with the injections, but diet and exercise were not part of my plan."
In 2003, Moore made the decision to change his life - and ultimately, to save it. He educated himself about the disease, and through "common sense weight loss" and the pursuit of fitness, he was able to discontinue all medications and drop 125 pounds.
"When I was diagnosed in 1988, education about Type 2 Diabetes was all but absent from medicine, and the condition hadn't become the national epidemic it is today. After walking off more than a hundred pounds, my blood sugar levels became perfectly normal, and the success I achieved is typical of the majority of overweight Type 2 Diabetics who make similar changes in their lives," Moore said.
Passing Through - Recovery from Diabetes and Food Addiction is a literary self-help book for anyone diagnosed with pre-diabetes or Type 2 Diabetes, their loved ones, and health care professionals. This frank and disarming memoir presents an approach to health that the author said anyone could understand and incorporate into daily life. The book is available in paperback on Amazon.com and in ebook for Kindle, iBooks, Nook, and Sony Reader.
A native and resident of Newberry, South Carolina, Carl Eugene Moore holds an MBA in Accounting & Finance, an MBA in Healthcare Management, an MFA in Creative Writing, and is currently doing his doctoral work in Health Care Informatics and Quality of Care. He teaches Health and Medical Informatics at the University of Phoenix and Brandeis University and in the English Department at Piedmont Technical College.
