Greenville, SC will host the first-ever 9/11 Heroes Run in the Carolinas and Georgia area on the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks this year, to honor those who risk their all.
SIMPSONVILLE, SC, August 03, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- On the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks this year, the Travis Manion Foundation, in partnership with the GM Foundation and Chevrolet, will host 33 races in cities and towns across the United States with proceeds benefiting our nation's veterans, first responders and military families. The fourth annual 9/11 Heroes Run will be held across the country the weekend of September 10th and 11th.
For the first time ever, there will be a 9/11 Heroes Run in the Carolinas and Georgia area. On Saturday, September 10th the Greenville 9/11 Heroes Run will take place at Furman University, with an 8:30 am start time. The primary goal of the 9/11 Heroes Run Greenville is to bring the community together to remember the sacrifice of all our heroes in uniform: military, police, firefighters and EMT's.
Before his final deployment, 1st LT Travis Manion, USMC, visited Rescue One in NYC - famous for losing almost all their men on 9/11 - and returned home passionate about why he was fighting in Iraq. He was committed to ensuring no one ever forgets the service of so many men and women who protect us every day. At its heart, the 9/11 Heroes Run is inspired by Travis' personal commitment to the heroes of that day.
The General Motors Foundation and Chevrolet pledged $250,000 to benefit the Travis Manion Foundation, it was announced Thursday, 28 July, by Dan Ackerson, chairman and CEO, General Motors. Both Ackerson and Manion are graduates of the United States Naval Academy.
Local sponsors for the 9/11 Heroes Run to date are Fete Magazine, Run In, Harvester Solutions, HD Greenville and Greenville Marketing Lab. Additional sponsors are welcome to participate; contact Greenville Marketing Lab for more information.
The Travis Manion Foundation is a qualified 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charity that was created in 2007 by the Manion family after Travis was killed in Fallujah, Iraq. The foundation assists wounded veterans, military families and first responders. Entry requirements and fees are detailed on the 9/11 Heroes Run Greenville website.
