JK Harris helps Oklahoma couple get out from under the "heel" of the IRS
JK Harris & Company, the nation's largest tax representation firm helps a Tulsa, Oklahoma couple get an offer in compromise negotiated with the Internal Revenue Service, allowing the couple to pay a fraction of what they originally owed.

GOOSE CREEK, SC, April 07, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Like many other taxpayers who owe the IRS back taxes, Christopher and Kathy Carr of Tulsa, OK had so much stress from their tax debt, it was affecting their health.

"I am intelligent, just not in tax matters," said Mr. Carr. "Early in my career, I had saved up some money and things were looking up."

However, that money eventually dwindled away as the Carrs coped with personal family issues and were forced to file bankruptcy.

"I had set aside money to pay my taxes, but the bankruptcy court confiscated that and I got behind on paying the IRS," Carr said. "In order to pay my back tax payments to the IRS, I was unable to make all of my quarterly tax payments and the penalties and interest began to mount and spiral out of control."
Carr said he went to two different local attorneys, but neither was able to work out his tax problem or negotiate a payment plan that he and his wife could afford. In the meantime, the Carrs' health began to deteriorate.

"I was convinced I would be forever under the heel of the IRS. I had little confidence that a big national company would take interest in my 'small potatoes' situation," Carr said. "From the beginning, the JK Harris staff was professional and seemed genuinely concerned about my situation. They kept plugging away until they finally rescued my life...it took awhile because of the IRS."

JK Harris was able to negotiate an offer in compromise for the Carrs. An offer in compromise is an agreement between the IRS and the taxpayer that allows the taxpayer's delinquent tax debt to be compromised for less than the amount owed. The offered dollar amount is based on the taxpayer's net worth plus their future income potential, in other words, what the taxpayer is actually able to pay.
Carr said he felt like the weight of the world was lifted from his shoulders when he got the call from JK Harris that the IRS had accepted his offer in compromise.

"My health is still a problem at 59. I have spent my life, in large part, in the outdoors hunting and fishing and am not used to the restraints of (poor) health and the IRS," Carr said. "The IRS had crushed my spirit and health, but I expect to feel better in part due to the work of JK Harris and Company."
